Well, I'll try to give you the answer based on my opinion and my observation. I was born and lived in Java for 23 years, in Borneo for 2 years, and Gorontalo for 3 years until now. And I believe that poor people always there everywhere since we have different standard about wealthy.
Now I will conclude my opinion and my observation why Indonesian poor people still can live in happiness and keep in smile and laugh. Whereas most of them are still earned above $1000/ a year.
1. Most of Indonesian poor people think that Happiness is simple
Yeah, it's very simple. When they can buy rice, palm oil, onion, and garlic, so life is easy. It is because rice is the main food and can keep in hunger away. Then, slice onion and garlic. Fry them with a little palm oil for a while. Next pour some water on it. Voila! the simple soup is ready to be ate. So, they will no hungry
Most of Indonesian poor people don't need internet. So they don't need to buy desktop, subscribe internet connection, or shop online. Actually those spend much money. They will think that it will better to buy rice than buy provider's balance and to shop in traditional market because there are no rice, garlic, or chili sold in online shop.
When they wanna have mobile phone, just buy phone that can be used to call and send SMS. It may costs $15. Forget about android because the china cheap mobile phone can be used to access facebook and twitter, even though can't be used to access instagram, BBM, or path.
So, life is simple and easy for Indonesian poor people. If there is no branch, the root still can be used. Hehehehe ....
2. eat or haven't eat, gathering is the first
May be you will think it is the special Javanesse Motto. But you are wrong. It is also Gorontalo's motto. My neighbor (in Gorontalo) sold their house just to buy a cow and a motorcycle. Then, they live with their old parents. The bad thing is their old parents' house is not large but there are 4 family live in that house. Even though they often confused about the food stock, they look like feel happy because they can live together.
3. Most of Indonesian poor people have high tolerance in believe
Most of Indonesian poor people are moslem, they are ISLAM. Don't trust media that said Indonesian moslem are terrorist. They are totally wrong. The fact is that most of Indonesian poor Moslem love to live in peace and share. Believe is believe. They think that religion is not their bussiness. Their bussiness is only getting money to buy life's need. So, if you ever read in social media about religion debating, that's not Indonesian poor people. that's Indonesian "average" people. not only about the economy, the knowledge and the emotion are not stable. Sometimes up, sometimes down. Indonesian poor people are very patient until in the level of "nrimo" or "Pasrah ning Allah" (Whatever God will)

Minimum requirement of English sentence(s)
Most of students which English is foreign language do not write English sentence well. It also happens to my students. they often make mistakes in writing, even, a simple sentence. So, I put the guidance below to write a well simple sentence in English.
1. A sentence needs a capital letter at the beginning.
e.g. My name is Lee Shanty.
We are high school students.
2. A sentence sometime needs a question mark, or an exclamation point at the end.
e.g What is it?
It is a book.
3. A sentence needs subject(s) and verb(s).
e.g. Sarah cooks rice every morning.
Sarah cooks rice and Winda boils fresh water every morning.
Note :
Sometimes we use a finite verb (either a simple verb or an auxiliary, such as is, were, has, had, will, can, might, should, do or does).
e.g My sister is 20 years old.
You are my idol.
I am the younger daughter.
They will go home soon.
4. In English, the regular sequence of a simple sentence is SVO (Subject-Verb-Object), with insertions possible at several points in the sequence.
5. A sentence needs an independent "core" idea, which can stand alone. This is known as a main clause or an independent clause.
e.g. When I entered my class, I saw the ghost.
